These monsters push you to the limits that would otherwise end up in catastrophe on a regular mountain bike.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWHAT IS A FAT BIKE?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"font-weight: inherit;\"\u003eA Fat Bike is basically a mountain bike with bigger, wider or fat tyres.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e They were initially designed for bicycle riders to travel more easily in snow environments. They will often traverse terrain that you couldn’t manage on any other bike, including sand, mud, ice, snow and even rocky gravel paths.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Often with larger, oversized 4” wheels, insurmountable terrain can be reimagined as an epic adventure and at that same recreational level or at an occupational level, riders will often use their Fat Bikes as a work horse as the large stable wheelbase provides the ability to also carry large amounts of gear or cargo.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWHEELS\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"font-weight: inherit;\"\u003eFat Bikes provide a number of unique features which differentiate them from conventional mountain bikes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe first feature is the enormous 4” tyres which are capable ploughing through all types of terrain.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey also feature extremely wide rims and oversized hubs in order to accommodate the larger tyres and tread.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese wider rims add extra weight to the bike, so some manufacturers will often excise some of the redundant material in the rim which will then produce a bubble effect on the inside of the rims.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe huge tread pattern also allows a rider to remain high in soft terrain and prevent bogging. If it gets tough though, you can just let some air out of the tyres and power on with very low tyre pressure (as low as 10 PSI).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cstrong\u003eFRAMES\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"font-weight: inherit;\"\u003eAt first glance, a Fat Bike frame looks much like a standard mountain bike but there are several key differences, with the most obvious being wheel clearance. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOften the rear triangle and front forks are both modified to accommodate the large, wide wheels and tyres. This means that conventional rim brakes are not suitable to fit or stop the large rotating mass of the wheels, making disc brakes a definite must have item.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cstrong\u003eGEARS\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"font-weight: inherit;\"\u003eGenerally speaking, Fat Bikes will use low gears to keep the wheels in motion over more technical terrain such as mud, snow and sand.
